Annoying wrist help was created by tramacet
Hi Guys,

I hurt my left wrist at kickboxing grading about 3 weeks ago. When i move my wrist to the left, it feels like something is moving over the front part of the ulna . My wrist was sore after the grading for a few days, but now there is no pain, even if it does the clicking thing.

The biokineticist at the gym looked at it and said it is probably the tendon that is stretched and taped my wrist up. He advised me to keep it strapped up for about 5 days, and then we can have another look at it. I cant do any shoulder presses or chest for 2 weeks (Time to catch up on some legs).

Problem is my blood flow to my hand gets effected very easily (Probably because my BF is low?), and I had to take the tape off after an hour. I know how to strap my wrist properly as I do it constantly with the kickboxing and I have tried to strap it myself a few times now, but every time it yields the same result: If I strap it tight enough to limit my wrist enough, my hand turns cold and blue. If I strap it in such a way that my hand doesn't turn cold and blue, I can move my wrist too much.

The wrist support thingys I can buy at the pharmacy doesn't restrict the movement enough side to side, but up and down is super stable.

Has anyone ever had a situation like this? I have 2 questions:

1. How can I strap my wrist without affecting the blood flow too much, or how can I improve the bloodflow?
2. Is there specific wrist guards that I can get from the doctor that will support it better?

Any other help and advice would also be appreciated.

Think it is important to mention that I have no pain what-so-ever.

The wrist strap is to restrict excessive movement which can injure your wrist further. As long as it is taped tight enough for this it is fine. For it to heal, your tendon needs good blood flow and the more the better. So only keep it taped up when necessary.

At the moment I have something I got from the pharmacy that I can put on and remove easily. While I work at the computer I take it off, and when I do anything that might require wrist movement like driving etc. I put it on.

So do you think that would be enough?

Yea just keep movement to the minimum. If you can keep it on while driving I would. Any strain on the tendon will slow healing.

Thanks.

I don't really have a problem in the gym. Everyday stuff like unlocking doors, turning round doorknobes, turning a steering wheel, eating etc. is what is annoying me :pinch:

Had a similar incident. Did upright rows, something made an audible snap sound in my wrist. If I moved my wrist to the right then left it had a clicking sound. Its been well over 2 months I would say. Got some joint support tabs. Seems to have healed up nicely... Haven't tried rows since. Too scared it happens again. Best of luck.

Thanks. To explain the feeling... Imagine pulling a string tight, then pressing the middle against something like the corner of a computer screen and pushing the string forward, until it pops over.

It feels like a tendon or ligament or whatever is popping over that circly part on the outside of your wrist.

Correct, if you hold your wrist and move it, you can feel it.

Exactly! Glad I am not alone. Searched the web but couldn't find jack shit about it.

How long did yours take to heal?

Its been well over a month, still not hundreds. Still clicks. Don't think that's going to change anytime soon. But I can atleast train now and push as heavy as I was without issues. Probably better idea to go and have it checked out. I didn't. Its really a shitty injury isn't it. I hope you have better luck than what I did. Bang legs and abs and cardio for now.

Yea it is annoying as fuck. I know which exercises not to do, and how to change some to prevent pressure on that part.

Will keep it strapped up while exercising and while doing anything that can injure it further. Sigh. Lets hope it gets better.

for the first three weeks or so I couldn't pick up anything heavy. Felt very uncomfortable. Say for instance bicep curls, anything where I would have to turn my wrist and put strain on it.
