Keto diet for diabetic was created by Bandit
Turns out my old man has diabetes.
As I understand, a keto diet could benefit him? Much truth in that?
Thanks

Basically has to stay away from anything containing sugar as he is insulin resistant so cant clear sugar / clucose from the blood properly and then it is converted and stored as fat .
Your Dad can do a full keto for 6 weeks or so and then start to add starchy carbs back in small amounts ...but nothing sugary for life that includes Milk and Fruit bread.. use sups for calcium and vit C
starting a gym program will help as well ...I am asuming he is overweight ?

thanks, he is overweight but not massively. Has been struggling to loose weight, even with a diet. I now know its related to the diabetes. He is going to start kayaking with me, so there's some nice cardio for him. Thanks for the reply. His health concerns me and I would like to learn as much as I can about this matter.

So far in my research I know the Keto diet was originally created for epileptic patients by John Hopkins. I know the diet is also effective for diabetics. Most of the literature I have read is focused solely on keto for fat loss and fat maintenance, so the keto diet on diabetics as to what extent and why it works I don't know.

Type 2 diabetes is mostly associated with diet related factors.
I think the idea is to gradually reduce carb intake. Keto diet removes unhealthy carb foods which lead to blood sugar control and insulin resistance issues.

Carbs like potatoe rice pasta bread and sugar ....anything starchy create Glucose which the type 2 cannot get rid off because of the insulin resistence so is stored as fat...
take a look at the links stef112 posted Bandit...obviously sweets cake cooldrink booze smoking ect ect is worse...
