food scale was created by Christian
Hi there guys,

I want to start dieting accordingly to my goals and have been reading up on nutrition.

I have also tried using myfitnesspal etc, but I am having problems with all these apps.

I went past a pharmacy where I came across a food scale but this food scale gives you protein, fat, carbs and sodium information on over 999 foods, but the price of this scale is about R600, it is a lot of money for a food scale and I would please appreciate any advise on this please. is it worth it or is there something else that I can get that would be a lot cheaper.

Thanks guys.

Just look up the values of your food macros on the net and get a regular scale to weigh your portions.

Thanks for your feedback Safehouse, I was also thinking of that I have got a book called I think the complete kilojoule, carb and fat counter SA addition with all of this foods in there but the only problem is the protein it doesn't give any info on the protein side, because some protein lets say skinless chicken breast contains fat as well so I am finding it quite difficult to get all the macro's from the net as well as they do differ a lot

I dont know why you are having a problem with myfitnesspal. There's a feature on there that has a barcode scanner. Just scan the barcode and it brings up all the macros. I've managed to find most of our local foods on there as well. Just get a normal food scale for 200 bucks from @home and look up the macros on myfitnesspal. If you are having an issue with it on your phone, just use the website

Does it have to be an app? Why not just log on to one of the webistes (fatsecret, myfitnesspal etc) and search the values?

If you're sticking to strict diet you should be eating generally the same thing every day, or on certain days, so it's really a once off calculation.

Good luck.

It depends on that what features you want and how much you can pay for buying a scale. Because there are many scale with cheap price and different features on Ebay and Amazon. I have bought one last month about $100 and it provide me accuracy up to 3 division.

Goodness gracious Jacob, do you really need to spend R1100 on a scale so that you can weigh your food in milligrams?

I have a R150 scale that is accurate to the nearest gram with a max weight of 5kg and it has been serving it's purpose for years.
