High blood pressure. was created by Witwolf
Had to do some tests at my gym and my blood pressure is quite high. It's been like this for a while now and is sitting at around 140/90. The lady told me that if the bottom one (systolic/diastolic?) goes up to 95 I won't be allowed to train at the gym.

Now what concerns me is that I'm only 24. I am on medication for depression (welbutrin/serdep) so this might play a role however I haven't spoken to my GP or psychiatrist yet. Is there any otc meds I can take to help this?

Should I be worried? I want to do a cycle (still training naturally) but now this is worrying me.

Diastolic. Ya it is quite high. So is the systolic to be honest. Are you on creatine or any other supplements? Your BP will increase on cycle so until you have reduced yours I wouldn't think about cycling yet.

To you it may look like I just did a push-up... But in fact, I just bench-pressed the world.

Now for the natural remedies that work for me work far better than any of the above drugs:

- Plant sterols and soluble fiber for lowering LDL cholesterol
- Niacin for raising HDL cholesterol
- Mineral-rich foods for lowering blood pressure
- B vitamins to lower homocysteine
- Herbs and spices to reduce blood clotting (turmeric)
- Omega-3 fish oils for both lowering overall risk
- Magnesium
- Potassium, rather don’t supplement but get from your green foods
- 8 glasses of water (lack of water makes the sodium levels inside cells go up.
- Normally suggested not to have salt but 1 salt that works in a positive manner is a special sea salt called Solo, which has 61 percent less sodium,
- Antioxidants to protect arteries from damage! (Kale, Blackberries, Blueberries, Strawberries, Beetroot, Broccoli, Spinach (steamed), Plums, Alfalfa Sprouts, Tenderstem, Raspberries and Spinach (raw)
- Ginkgo Biloba
- Vitamin C

Vitamin E is also crucial and tests done at Cambridge University some 15 years ago showed a 75 per cent decrease in heart attack in a group of 2000 patients with heart disease compared to those with the placebo.

And another powerful antioxidant is Co-enzyme Q10 which has also included wonders for people with heart disease and hypertension.

I would go and see a doc. That is very worrying especially at your age.

Don't underestimate the effect salt can have on your blood pressure as well. Avoif foods high in sodium, especially fast foods. If you must add salt when you cook use Solo.

Thanks MA I will see a doctor. However ill monitor my BP for a week or two and keep a journal of the results so the doctor has something tangible to work with.

Good idea Witwolf. Take bp after you woke up, if possible mid day and evenings when settling down. That will give the doc a much better idea of wtf is going on.

Personal issues and stress is the bitch 90% of the time. I hope you dont smoke and drink with high BP

I quit smoking almost 8 months ago and don't drink (at all). I've got a feeling its a mixture of stress/anxiety and the medication I'm currently on. Still, not something I want on my plate at the moment. Will keep you guys updated.

140/90 is still normal. High normal, but nothing to get worked up about or dangerous. Monitor your BP like you said and just try some tactics to get it down a little. Then after 3 weeks or so if you can't bring it down then go see a GP. High BP is very common in hypertensive patients.

140/90 doesn't stay there when you go on a cycle. He should be concerned because is planning to start a bulking cycle and his bp will be way too high.

Rather treat it now otherwise in 2 months he'll be posting that he's freaked out because his bp is 170/110.

Witwolf, you will need to be referred to a cardiologist via your gp. Its best to see the specialist as he will do ECG, heart sona and put you on a 24hrs BP monitor to get a true reflection as to what is going on. You may have left ventricular hypertrophy, common in athletes, but LVH can also be caused by prolonged blood pressure. If LVH is from athletes heart then its fine, if its blood pressure related it needs urgent treatment - chronic medication and monitoring. I had LVH from very high blood pressure. Swelling on the left side went down after 4 months of treatment and now if I take juice is sit at around 130/90. I was stage 3 before treatment and did not even know it. I just used to get a lot of headaches, eye pressure and a feeling of being strangled. Also if you suffer sinus issues that is a dangerous combination with BP. As MA/ Pyro and Oupa suggested, no juice until you are sorted brother. Take care of yourself.
