Hey guys

I presume there must be some guys on here who has had this procedure. I would like some info plz man.

How does one go about this? This is my scanerio...

I'm 30. Not married. No kids. Have never had interest in having kids and I don't see that changing anytime soon. And really don't want a "mistake" to happen Regardless if I get married or not. I am in a committed relationship though.

1. Would a doc have to check my sperm first to test if its "active" or fertile or whatever or could they just go ahead and do it?

2. Would a doc or specialist do such a procedure considering my age etc? It is my decision after all.

3. Would medical aid pay for this?

I mean no disrespect as I know there are many people out there who may not agree and who can't have kids (not even sure if I can) and desperately want and have tried. Its just a personal preference.

Daar is n moerse verskil in n man se lewe tussen 30 - 35. So byt nog so bietjie vas.

My older brother was adamant about never having kids. Now at around 40 he has met the right girl and has changed his mind to everyone's surprise. Think long and hard about it, but even if you do get a vasectomy and change your mind, you can still conceive through in vitro fertilisation. But that will involve a doc sticking a fat needle in your nads to extract sperm, and will cost a small fortune.

Oupa is correct.
You need to consult your GP who will refer you to a urologist.
I don't think they need to test first but it would make sense - if you can avoid the snip that would be first prize I guess.
If you are concerned about changing your mind in the future (which doesn't seem to be the case but everyone will try dissuade you), check to see if there is a reversible procedure. My brother-in-law had his reversed so you should have no worries.
Happy boning B)

I did my snip at more or less your age. Maybe a year later than you.

1. No sperm test, none of that nonsense, you just go ahead and do.

Find a Urologist in your area, if you like him and he's procedure, then DO IT...
They all have their procedure which they prefer.
As far as I can remember they are reversible, but the reversal is not guaranteed, he even had me sign a document that IF we fall pregnant after the snip, we cant sue him....
The Doc might try and speech you because of your situation (age, not married, no kids), in my case I have 2 kids, so he didn't even bother.

Only sperm test that was done, was one after 6 weeks. You need to clear the tubes of all the swimmers, they then test to see if there might be a stubborn swimmer hanging around....

2. Yip, if the Doc doesn't want to do it, find one that will.

3. Yes at the time Discovery did pay for everything.

My advice, if you think there is any chance of a change of mind. Have some swimmers bottled and stored on ice, and have yourself snipped. If you meet Miss Perfect, and want some sprogs, then you have some swimmers on ice... Best of both worlds...

Hope it helps??

Good Luck!!!

Perhaps get the little lady on birth control until you are sure... Don't get me wrong its your life and your thoughts are respected just think about it

Nothing like a operation's healing time, I had some discomfort the week end, but by the Sunday it cleared.
After that it was just the stitches, the external stitches took a few days after they started to dissolve and fall out.

It’s really a minor op, the worst was actually the discomfort the Saturday and Sunday After the procedure. Felt like you got kicked in the nuts.
