Cryolipolysis for spot reduction of fat was created by Muscleaddict
I was at a function the other day and a someone I've known for ages who is a pretty smart person was talking about this fat reduction 'fad' that supposedly literally freezes subcutaneous fat without damaging your skin, and in the process destroys the adipose tissue or cellulite, giving you what no other fat loss therapy or drug has been able to do- spot fat reduction.

So is it nonsense like the other hundred's of other fat loss fads? Naturally I didn't believe a word of it but since she told me she had been for the treatment herself and that her results were really good I thought I'd save my judgement for later and do a bit of research.

It turns out there might be some merit to these claims of being the only non surgical/non invasive spot reduction procedure that works. In my research I only looked at data published in respected medical journals or publications so the numbers are legit.

The data shows:

Out of 518 participants, 82% said they would recommend the treatment to friends with a group average of 23% reduction in fat layer thickness at 3 months. This study concluded that with proper patient selection, cryolipolysis is a safe, well-tolerated, and effective treatment method for reduction of subcutaneous fat.

The Dept. of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong also did a study to determine the efficacy of the procedure. They concluded that it is an effective body contouring procedure with significant improvements.

A study done by the School of Medicine at New York University on 10 volunteers showed fat layer reduction of 20.4% at 2 months and 25.5% at 6 months after treatment.

Since this is the only spot reduction procedure with legit scientific data to back it up I thought it was worth posting. It certainly won't appeal to most of us, or bodybuilders in general, but it is maybe an option to look at for those with fat cat paychecks who want to score points with their wives bitching about cellulite, or those who want a bit of a fat loss boost without sweating it out on a treadmill.

According to the trademark registration file, it refers to a medical device used to destroy fat cells. Its principle relies on controlled cooling for non-invasive local reduction of fat deposits to reshape body contours. The exposure to cooling is set so that it causes cell death of subcutaneous fat tissue without apparent damage to the overlying skin. The procedure is billed as a nonsurgical alternative to liposuction. The name Cryolipolysis is an acronym of Cryogenic Lipolysis. Cryogenic lipolysis is the process of controlled cooling to reduce localised fat deposits used in Cool Sculpting, 3D Lipo and Cryolipo.

Do we have an estimate on costs and how feasible the procedure could be as an alternative to dieting and exercising?

No, it's much cheaper. I was told the treatment was R1500. It works on cellulite as well which diet and exercise don't help much with at 'normal' bf%.

I'm speaking under correction here, but won't fewer but fatter adipose cells negatively impact insulin sensitivity?
