South African mixed martial artist Booto Guylain has died due to injuries suffered in a Feb. 27 bout under the Extreme Fighting Championship Africa banner.

EFC Africa officials announced the news Wednesday in a press release on the promoter’s official website.

“Guylain suffered a serious head injury during his MMA bout at EFC Africa 27 last Thursday,” the statement read. “Immediately after the bout, he was stabilized by the on-site medical team and transported to the hospital, where he was treated for swelling and bleeding on the brain. Guylain received care from one of South Africa’s top neurosurgical teams but tragically passed away today.”

Really sad :( RIP

Yes very sad. You have to wonder about the officiating in EFC. Many people say the fight was stopped too late. When someone's in a full mount getting ground and pounded to shit and not defending himself you stop the damn fight asap.

Not from me but there is speculation that he might have gone into the fight with a Minor concussion. I am not sure if i believe it cause im pretty sure they get a FULL medical before they step into that ring.

Full med means bugger all for concussions in my experience. . This is very sad.

To you it may look like I just did a push-up... But in fact, I just bench-pressed the world.

Considering the nature of the sport, it's inevitable that this will happen. Remember Brian Baronet, Jacob Morake..

Completely agree. But as mack said, it is the nature of the beast. I just wouldn't get involved in a sport where the main objective is to inflict damage on someone else. Hence I see most contact sports as idiotic. I have seen club rugby matches get so out of hand when guys get wrapped up in the moment where whilst a guy was getting up he got booted in the face by a pissed off oposing team memeber and he will never walk or use his body again from the damage. I just don't see the point as u can never get away from the dofferent nature's and reactions and rage of people whixh can end with horrid results.

These things are tragic, but bound to happen and if its the case of the person died for what they are passionate about then each to their own. I just don't personally agree with playing or doing sports that can inflict incredible harm to others. U don't hear of guys being hospitalised from playing chess now do u?

Chess is intense ok?! Lol...I found a few "chess related" deaths... But yeah, these day's things are crazy in stuff like rugby... even at school level the guys are being taught from a young age to hurt the other guy more so that he is scared of you and you can win.

1959 Antarctica killing
After losing a chess game, a Russian at a Soviet Antarctic base murdered a colleague with an axe. Following this, the Soviet authorities prohibited cosmonauts from playing chess.[5] [6]

Michael Steward
In October 2009, Iowa City resident David Christian killed neighbor Michael Steward after the two got into a fight over a chess game. Christian was sentenced to ten years in prison as part of a plea bargain.

Tom O'Gorman

Tom O'Gorman of Castleknock, Dublin, Ireland was murdered by a Sicilian lodger in his home during a game of chess on January 12, 2014. Due to a dispute over a move, the Italian killed O'Gorman with a kitchen knife and dumbbell, allegedly dismembering his chest cavity and ingesting his lung. After the murder, the Sicilian confessed to the crime and was taken into custody
