What would you like to know about it? There are loads of different types of anti-depressants out there and ones that work much better than Wellbutrin in my opinion.

Furk, you can get anything in ZA if you know where to look lol

However, whether it's prescribed by doctors here, I'm not sure.

Okie dokes. Heard good things State-side of it (although string withdrawals if I recall correctly). Anti-depressants responses vary greatly between people. Since this topic is in the right section, I'm pretty keen to explore what's worked for who. So BUMP. ;)

It shocks me the amount of people on Anti-depressants. Maybe I'm wrong and to old school but people need to stop being such cry babies and take a spoon of cement.
If you need a pill to make you smile your life must be pretty empty.

Obviously there are exceptions like people who are bi polar or have serious mental issues. But jumping on them because of a break up or the likes

I hear you - BUT....

Depression is like an illness or injury.
and if you're ill or injured, you see a doc & get it sorted.
Can't make a smashed arm gone with some HTFU!!!

Example
My dad died after a prolonged stay in hospital.
I managed everything & everyone, cos I'm his son & I'm tough like Him!!
1 day after the memorial service, I physically collapse in agony @ PE airport.
Felt like an air bubble stuck in my chest.
3 days in hospital, lots of drugs. Its mildly better and I go home.
1 week after that, still in pain - go see a psychologist.
3 sessions later, no pain, no drugs, sorted.

Moral is - your head can take you down physically.

Sometime life will F#$% you up & get you down.
Learning to deal with these impacts properly is not easy (see a head shrink)

BUT, working out and being fit & healthy is one of the best treatments.

Nobody implied that. I don't think that's the case these days. Either way, anti-depressants need to go and in hand with therapy to be effective and solve underlying problems. If that doesn't work, perhaps there isn't a real problem to begin with.

I was talking from my experience, every second person I no seems to be on them. My mother who is a Doctor finds it insane how readily they are prescribed and thinks half the country are walking around in clouds.

Just like every kid seems to be diagnosed with ADD these days  but that's a whole other argument

I agree with both of you (Furk and Opiel) that you should be going to and have them prescribed by a Shrink. I don't think GP's should be able to hand out scripts like they do.

I was wondering about that, seems that ADD is so common that people that doesn't have it are actually the ones with a disorder. Eish

Very sad. In a lot of cases the schools couldn't be bothered dealing with hyper active children and parents don't no how to entertain them anymore so it's far esier to medicate.

Anti-depressants have their place. Steroids can be prescribed by doctors if the person is in need and so can anti-depressants. The issue falls in the fact that there is no definitive test for depression when compared to the scientific approach used when trying to see if someone has low testosterone levels. That issue is also prevalent when looking at those 'diagnosed' with ADD/ADHD.

I know a lot of people who need anti-depressants for genuine reasons, people who can not step outside without feeling like the world is collapsing around them. It's sad to say that people experience that. I also know a lot of people who are prescribed Ritalin because they cannot go a few seconds without getting distracted from work.

I also know a lot of people abusing them and lying to doctors/psychiatrists to get a script. They tell the doctor a sob story about a loved one passing away etc etc or they tell them that no matter how hard they try to focus, they cant, they leave with their script. That said, so many people are prescribed drugs like Ritalin that it is easily handed around between friends and I speak from personal experience from when I was at Uni and in high school. Nothing is hard to get in today's society.

I've been offered anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication in the past but I refuse to seek medical help for my issues, I don't go to counseling either.

Harden up, people have had worse lives than you (not aimed at OP).

Wellbutrin is a brilliant drug.. gives you drive and focus.. helps you with cravings (marketed as zyban) but the same drug.

Just like we need PCT to balance our bodies, some need anti depressants or other medication to be balanced.

You are not taking wellbutrin if it isn't by the looks of things dopamine being an issue..

I'm happy you not on a SSRI. From my side thumbs up, great drug.. maybe you will experience some cramps in your stomach but that goes away soon and seizures can be an issue for some, but that is more if you suffer with epilepsy..

Oh and just like you guys say man up with depression, I want you to be able to have your Mrs fall pregnant when you infertile..

Clinical depression YOU CANNOT SNAP OUT OF.. FACT! If you do not understand chemicals and the way ones bodies work, rather don't make stupid comments.. me reading this is just like an educated steroid user reading of someone wanting to use Dianabol as he is scared of needles

Correct, however, people need to realize that sometimes drugs, whether prescribed or not, are not always the answer. Someone who is very upset can very easily pull the "depressed" in today's society and have a script written for them. Too many people are turning to chemical assistance in my opinion, those who don't actually need the stabilizing that you spoke about.

I've been diagnosed with PTSD and I suffer from bouts of depression and anxiety attacks but instead of turning to chemical assistance I've tried to figure out other ways of dealing with it. I've studied this stuff in great deal, as I'm sure you have, Pump. But you have to admit that the society we live in would rather turn to a quick-fix solution without knowing the root cause of the issue whether it is psychological, physiological or both.

I take my hat off to you as I know how difficult that is. I have opted for more natural aids for myself personally.. I prefer the effects of using natural elements and I have come close to achieving that with the right herbs.

Good luck on your side

Someone who knows what they are talking about! Clinical depression is a hormone imbalance. You can't just smile and HTFU, just like you cannot just buy a playboy when you have Deca dick or eat grapefruit when you have gyno.

I have been put on aropax ssri because of obsessive compulsive disorder. It works and has its place. Hard to be a perfectionist you're entire life. The ssri takes the hell away.

Probably the best drug for a variety of anxiety disorders, but Paxil is probably the hardest SSRI to come off.. The other nice effects of it is its sedating properties, so helps for good nice sleep.. If you do ever come off, this is one drug you want to tapper off SLOWLY or you will get extreme brain zaps.

Thanks Pump, yes its good stuff and luckily I only suffer from OCD which was excessively annoying. I am aware of the titration process for this drug, don't imagine I will be coming off anytime soon though.
