While the rant does post reasons to NOT compete, it never gives a solid reason to enter a comp either.
Next week, thousands of people will be running the Comrades and very few of them are going for victory. They are doing it because its a challenge and a great life experience.
Many of them have posted their training on social media and many don't have the genetics to be great runners. Does this mean that they shouldn't enter the race? If you don't make it to the top 5,000 in your first go should you give up competing because you're not a real athlete?
While I agree that selfie whores and douche bags are annoying, they are annoying as individuals and don't represent bodybuilding.
Some people start off from way out and make huge progress but will never get rid of the loose skin (or whatever). They deserve as much respect as anyone else and have earned the right to validate their progress in this type of environment. If anyone sets themselves a goal and has the nuts to follow through and get on stage, I tip my hat to them.
And besides, any competitor who is below par will just push my/your ranking up so there is no reason for us as serious athletes to get concerned. I say bring em on. More competitors = bigger shows = better exposure = better sponsorship and prizes for the elite
