Hey bud, depends what's cheap for you. I'm currently paying R 43/kg for fresh chicken breast fillets at Rebel Fruit and Vegs in Atlasville.

I purchase my chicken breast (fillets) from DaWood Chicken, there is one in Boksburg - fakidawoodandson.ipcoweb.com/Branches .
R31 / KG for Rocklands chicken fillets. They are frozen and marinated in brine however I find the chicken to be really moist when cooked and extremely tasty, easy to cook with and very clean. No bones, hardly any fat (it is breast I guess) and packaged in 1KG bags which often yield 3.5 to 5 breasts depending on the size.

Only downside (I doubt for any of us though) is that you need to purchase a 10KG box, which is R310. I am sure we all will consume 10KG of chicken breast pretty quickly.
Give it a try and see whether it works for you or not.

Certainly the cheapest chicken breast I have managed to find and far better quality chicken than some of the other alternatives to cheaper chicken which I have tried - such as those IQF (individually quick frozen) chicken pieces bags you get in the frozen section of PnP etc. That stuff is terrible!! Soo much fat and the meat looks soo swollen as well (also has brine, but seems to be a lot more) and skin and bone everywhere and yeah. Bad stuff, stay away from it!

EDIT: Just a heads up, I goto the DaWood in town and not the Boksburg one and they only accept cash - although an ATM is present. So if you are going, rather take cash with to be safe, never know if the ATM might be out of order. ;)

I think it would depend on which brand you purchase, I purchase the Rocklands chicken and yes there is certainly brine in there. How much I am not sure, it could be 25%.

I am out at the moment, when I get I will try and weigh a 1KG bag and see how far off it is and check the brine % as well. I guess if you want to get technical 25% brine means 7.5KG of chicken breast which then works out to R41 / KG.

After defrosting, there is a bit of liquid inside the bag which I end up throwing down the drain. I would imagine most of it to be brine I guess, when cooking the chicken there is liquid coming out of the chicken breast as well and I find it really hard to screw up the cooking of the chicken breast and make it very dry and unpalatable like chicken breast from a roast chicken! I have yet to have the Rocklands chicken breast end up anywhere near a roast chicken's breast which I struggle to eat due to how dry and tasteless it is! :)
