This could really hurt the wallet. What do you guys who know more about farming think about this article ?

"The African Farmers Association says that meat prices could double in the current economic climate.

The association warned of price shocks for chicken, pork and red meat in the short term due to rising fuel prices and a national drought, Eyewitness News reported.

These factors are compounded by rising inflation and interest rates, along with a hike in electricity tariffs.

The association pointed to the staggering increase in maize prices – which is used to feed livestock – currently at around R3,000 a tonne, from between R1,800 and R2,000 before.

It warned that the price may hit R5,000 per tonne by winter."

Aiii... I do not want to follow a vegetarian, or even worse a vegan diet!

For some Abs are made with lighting & angles... For others they are made in the kitchen.

Yes, SA is fucked as far as food security is concerned, but it's not only the Rand, drought, fuel prices and electricity prices... it's also the government "helping" farmers to their doom. During past droughts (pre-94) the government assisted farmers through the difficult times, but these days they only help a handful of black farmers and those they help cannot produce enough food to feed a country overpopulated with unproductive people.

My wife's family farm with livestock - they're holding onto their cattle & sheep, waiting for the inevitable price rise.. can't blame them
