Blood tests..cortisol high? Gh low? was created by Snitch
Howsit going gents.

I went for some bloods this week..got the results back today. Just a question for you lads, my cortisol was taken at 8am fasted. The level was 518 nmol/l. Is that high? If I remember correctly it has to be less than 600 at its peak. Can anyone advise?

I checked my GH as well which seems super low? <0.05 (reference <5.4)
IGF-1 seems fine 240 ng/ml
IGFBP3 4.5 ug/ml

Any feedback I'd appreciate gents.

Cortisol can rise a lot if you're stressed or over-training. Yours is still within range, so nothing to worry about.

GH is difficult to test if you're not on exogenous GH (and then you still have to time your bloodwork properly) - the pituitary gland releases it in pulses, making it fluctuate a lot. You might have drawn blood during a GH trough.

As long as your IGF1 level's good, you're golden. GH is released into your bloodstream by the anterior pituatary gland, and stimulates the liver to produce IGF1. In other words, if you really had low GH levels, your IGF1 results would also be affected.

Don't ever bother testing GH levels unless it's to test the quality of HGH (you then need to do the test a few hours after injection). You only need to test IGF1. If that is fine then your HGH production is fine.

Cortisol is the highest in the morning because it's what wakes you up. Cortisol fluctuates every minute for any reason so to measure Cortisol at any one point in time makes no sense. You need to take the 24h urine test for a result.
