All you desk jokkies out there - help a guy make a choice.

Home printer - school projects mostly but pictures should at least be nice.
Colour etc. No need for scanner/fax etc but i know you now have it without choice!
Cartridges? Price etc.
Wi fi connectivity pref.

Sub 1K (or close).

Leaning towards HP J4500 on special at Makro for 999.

Any recent experience?

I have an old Canon PIXMA IP4200 - the head has gone and they want 800 for that alone.

Just did a skim read on it, dam good deal if you ask me..

I was big into Lexmark printers until I had 2 bad multi ones in a row, (fan issues). Have a HP all in one now and it's doing a great job..

I recon with some photo paper that printer will print mean imagery.

hey JR, you dont get bad printers these days only bad service. having said that i agree with pump that the price is good and reviews on the 4500 has been great!

this is exactly what a home user would require.

Inkjet printers are a big waste of money, the cartridges dont last long and they cost almost as much as the printer.Printer companies are only interested in you buying the cartridges, they dont give a crap about the printer, thats why the once-off costs for inkjet printers are so cheap.Go for a laser printer, they are more durable, toners last long and cheaper than cartridges.

tiny :) get with the times, laser printers are hardly any difference in price, and you refill ink cartridges and it works 100%, been doing that for 10 years now. Costs me a couple rand to full

Aparantly the HP 8500 print cost compares very well to laser.
My cartridge guy sells eg Canon CLI-8(Y/M/C/B) at R130 when they are 200-250 everywhere else.
