Just needing to have a rant here about the mentality of some of the people in our country who are meant to be educated young adults.

Yet again at my University there are student protests about fees and housing, and yet again they have broken down into a degenerate riot, characterised by intimidation, disruption and destruction.

Today the mob came marching through our campus wielding sticks and gutter pipes, pulling other, disciplined students out of lectures as they go and intimidating all who crossed their path. Once again my clinic has had to be shut down for both intern and patient safety, and I have had to contact all my booked patients to embarrassingly inform them of the situation and cancel their appointments indefinately.

I've paid my fees each and every year and am now involved in a research study in order to complete my Masters, but i am now delayed from qualifying by this mob that are preventing me from seeing my patients and continuing with my clinical trial.

I spend hours of my time and hundreds of rands out my own pocket to find the participants for my study, and now I risk losing those very patients due to the inability of the University and/or Police force to provide a safe environment for learning.

Its a very scary thought to consider that these very people who are rioting and misbehaving like lesser species, are not the dregs of our society, but rather the tertiary educated few.
It seems its not enough to offer them sponsored tuition so long as they pass, the University must also continue to pay for them even when failing subjects.
This is but one grievance, they also expect housing for all students, provided by the university. It seems tertiary education is no longer a priveleged for the more intellectual folk, but rather a "right' for the masses, who are not prepared to do the requesite work.

Dunno if any of you deal with similar problems? Just needed to rant after wasting my day

If you vote for anythign else as well you are voting for the DEVIL!! And this people is the president of our beloved country!!

www.mg.co.za

The problem with this is that the uneducated masses that make up the ANC will believe this as well as a few in parliament!!

You know jack, i've thought just the very same thing. The Chiropractic department is generally fulled with the sporty sort of guys, rugby players etc... So most of the okes are pretty big and physical. We could certainly hand out a beating, but unfortunately when pitted against that mob mentality its only numbers that count.

And when it comes down to it the diligent students are more timid and less inclined to protest

I see the same with all people with the same mentality, when they are addressed with something they do not know how to handle, violence breaks out.

Addressed with the fact that not everything can be freeeeeeeee!

Now please explain to them.... NOTHING is free! Just because you get it for nothing it doesnt mean it is! Somewhere some do-gooder is paying for all of this!

Agreed jack. Obviously no economic students at my varsity.

And since when is tertiary education a right? Primary and secondary yes, but tertiary is a privelege. Many of my friends have never gone to varsity because they cant afford it, others are working to pay their way through, and I worked my arse off in school in order to get a bursary. Yet these monkeys expect it to be sommer given to them, and not only that but they demand to be passed through the system whether they are smart enough or not. I cant stand the mentality of my generation that everything must just be given to them. And i cant stand societys glorification of mediocrity and overt political corectness that makes this possible. One day it will all fall apart, it cant go on forever, standards cant constantly be dropped

Well today we are on the news for violent clashes. The whole place has been shut down for the week and was swarming with cops today... Apparently a number of clashes and a fai amount of rubber bullets flying. Like primates they've resorted to violence and destruction, costing more money to an already crippled institution, all while they demand ''free'' POST GRAD education. Get a job and pay for yourself!

I now have to resort to sneaking patients into the campus and treating them in an undisclosed location in order to keep up with my trial...

I feel your pain Spike, but tbf varsity fees are getting out of hand. I have to pay R40k a year for my engineering degree which is a shit load for me since I'm only being supported by my mom.

I definitely agree that tertiary education is a privilege and cannot be free, but it should be made more affordable for those who do qualify to study.

Rioting and violence, on the other hand, is not behaviour I'd associate with people who are serious about studying. It sounds more like a group of tossers who are desperate for the government to foot the bill for them to party the year away

Sorry guys Apparently it is true, cause its happened to certain people already, so I’m not taking any chances !!

ah but DG, that is exactly the problem. It is because of these students who cruise through for free that YOUR fees are so high. My varsity has something like a defecit of R20 million in outstanding fees. Now who foots the bill for that? Me and you. Nothing is free, staff have to be paid... So once again the few support the many

Well here is the scoop on the rioters demands, this i heard from my HOD.
There is a national agency/fund which sponsors students to do Diploma level studies. The 400 students now rioting are beneficiaries of this fund who have now qualified with their N.Dip and are wanting to study further and register for a B.tech (Bachelor degree). It is not part of the said funds policy to pay for this, as these students now have a qualification and can get a job and support their own studies. Basically they are wanting not only a free tertiary diploma, but post grad as well.

The agency/fund that sponsors these students is a national one and as such, if they were to meet these 400 students demands, they would in all fairness have to do the same for thousands of students across the country. Obviously this is financially impossible and would bankrupt the fund, resulting in no more sponsorships for future students.

Greedy? I think so

@spike, thats 100% true. The government's already subsiding all tertiary fees by 40%, which is alot. If they keep buckling under the pressure of protests then they're gonna have to cut the salaries of teachers, cops and nurses to fund the fuckers who study for 2 years then decide the degree "is not for them"

Lol @ the new developments, it took those idiots 3 years to realise that they cant get a job as a hawker with just a diploma?

Thats even worse, they are fully competent individuals capable of earning enough to support there post grads.

its utterly disgusting, by rights there should be a clause in those contracts, where the fund states those individuals who successfully complete the diplomas etc, should contribute 10% of their salary back to the fund for the first year. this will enable the fund to continually grow and support more future learners.

some people have no intellect and a downright selfish.

I've seen this shit happen at Pta Tech as well a few times. Bunch of fools who have no inclination to study or better themselves. Some of them not even registered students, it's a rent a mob. One thing that i do know for a fact is that rubber bullets work quite well on these fools.
