pc data recovery was created by johnnyBgood
Sup guys.

Know this isn't a pc site but seen some of you here quite knowledgeable on the subject. So here's my situation, my 10 month old boy pulled my external hd off the computer table needless to say that's shot so I took it back and they sent it away. Still under warranty. But now my pc has crashed so I took it to a pc shop they reckon its the internal hd. So all my photos and docs are gone..

Has anyone here had any luck with data recovery??
Just wanna know what's the chance of me seeing my pictures again..

Shot..

Since the data is pretty valuable I think it's worth sending the broken disk off to one of the local data recovery companies. Probably going to cost R4k-6k though. Only do this if the disk hardware failed completely.

How sure are you that the disk is actually broken? Just because your PC is crashing doesn't mean the photos are also lost or corrupt. Maybe take the disk with your data and use a low level cloning program to make another exact copy just incase your attempts to recover the data destroys the disk for good. There used to be a bootable OS that you can boot from the CD or flashdrive and make an exact clone of a drive. I think it was called HD Clone.

Here is the link: www.miray.de/products/sat.hdclone.html

I bought a license some time ago, but since I don't use a PC anymore I threw all these things away unfortunately.

If it had bad sectors...u wont get it back. If however they can format it and then try to recover it, it might work. I have done this alot.
I used to lan alot in the good ol days, so many viruses we use to format our pc's every month.lol
we wer young..lol
anyway, i ran a recovery on that drive somwer last year to test a program...i still got some old videos and pics that i had lost in formats like 3-4 years before.
maybe this guy that has it can do a good job, not like it burnt or sumthing, keep us updated. maybe i can help. I work in IT so can give u a couple pointers maybe.

Regards and goodluck

i take it u did plug your internal into someone else's pc as an external or extra hd first before going through all this trouble? windows crashes a lot but hd's seldom breaks

Don't recover data to same disk, that is how not to recover data... external disk, and restore to it..

Just spoke to the technician now, recovery software been running the whole night but only halfway, picked up a few hundred thousand files so far so hoping to recover photos. Don't know why its taking so long tho but not complaining if its finding stuff..

Correct, even shutting down the OS might overwrite the data on the disk.

Ok so after a 95 hour scan and 1 overnighter to copy 2 my external they managed to save about 80 percent of my photos and stuff so I'm pretty much happy.

Only complaint is that the folders r gone so I have about 8000 mixed masala pics. No order or anything. Ag well at least they there..
