Hi Guys

Which medical aid do you prefer or have had no hassles with? is Discovery the better option seeing that they are widely recognised?

Thanks

I think Discovery is the best. They have such a diverse range of policies to choose from and you get benefits like Vitality. I was on Discovery for years, then switched to Momentum, now I'm back on Discovery (due to better rates, and better value & med benefits in general).

No problems at all. I really haven't needed to claim that much at all, but the times that I have they were more than happy to sort it out. I also have a life insurance policy through them which I got at a very good rate. Vitality is also fantastic for cheap gym membership, healthy food discounts at PnP and also the Vitality points system is something that gives a bit of motivation to keep healthy and fit and enter sporting events.

If you look at the stats, discovery is the last time I checked the only one in the black, the rest in the red.

I am with Liberty Life . My ex was on Discovery..

Sorry to say she had endless shit with her chronic meds with
them.. always phone fighting ans so on.

I have never had any issues with liberty .

I'm on CAMAF. Was previously on Discovery but had to swop over for company reasons. Coming over from Discovery I can tell you that Discovery has nothing CAMAF in terms of the type of cover you get. They have a similar option as Vitality but not as comprehensive. They are in the process of updating the benefits.

Discovery is a good medical aid if you don't claim alot. If you're on chronic meds, u'll wanna jump off a building and slit your wrists on the way down.

After watching Carte Blanche a few months back they where discussing medical aids and discovery was the leader so I did research after it to see the truth in what was being said...

Oh, I thought they were racists since there is no White...

I have a Discovery hospital plan for me and my family as I don't mind paying for everyday meds and doctor visits. It's those hospital fees that will bankrupt you when something serious goes wrong. So far I've never had problem with them, but it's not too often that we end-up in hospital anyway thought. The couple of times snakes decided to attach themselves to my limbs they had no problem paying my ICU visits... lol

In order to take out a medical plan with Discovery, is it better to go through a broker or contact Discovery directly?

Why pay broker fees, go to them direct.

@admin: hectic bro....snake bites could not have been fun. I agree, hospital plan is the way to go if you are relatively healthy and have no disorders that require chronic meds. Its those hospital stays that can bankrupt you very quickly if you not on Med Aid, and I wouldn't risk going to a government hospital.

Hospital plans do pay for chronic medication, read carefully :) most people think they don't all my brothers insulin is covered, and blood sticks, which is very expensive, they pay a small handling fee.

STUARTF if you have a medical condition they cover X doctor visits each year, + specialist for the condition. I wouldn't think they would cover bloods though, think that may be pushing it :)

I've been with Discovery for almost seven years now and I've never had issues at all. They know their stuff when you phone and the Vitality option is awesome.

I also have my Life Insurance with them with is a lot better value than the previous companies I've been with and they also give you money back according to your vitality status.

I'll also be moving my short term insurance there soon for the same reasons as above.

Ye I had the guys from discovery come to my office and talk me through it, we sat for close on 3 hours, discussing everything, I wouldn't let him leave until I knew the answer to every question I had, and not in discovery talk, in normal medical understanding... Medical aids are very clever to use words that mean something else, I made sure he gave me the whole truth and nothing but the truth <g>
