Hey All,

Just wondering how many guys/ladies on here have competed in any form of physique contest, be it Ms/Mr Fitness or BBing shows and competitions like those?

Toying with an idea of competing but not sure how serious I am yet :)

I competed in the KZN Novice last year and am eager to compete again, what an experience! Go for it, the ifbb novice shows are well organised and a nice place to start

Maybe not in the future, but for now they are still the most organised with the best managed and most supported shows. Until one of the other feds picks up the ball and starts running i'd say theyre a safe bet. Anyway, at novice level you are way below the radar and far from the controversy in the upper echelons

At the moment I really need a goal to work towards with my training, getting stronger is great and love it but it does get to a point of - how much stronger do i want to get?! I'm not massively strong by any means in comparison to some guys but stronger than your average joe.

Although I lost the 51kgs, 137-86, I was looking gaunt and skinny, I suppose running will do that for you. I also had loose skin around the midsection. I decided to fill out and get stronger and am now at 105kg.

Eating is my number 1 nemesis and I feel if I can work towards a Mr Fitness or some form of BB show it will give me the mental mindset and edge I need to tame the beast so to speak.

Thanks for the input Spike - do you follow a traditional BBing approach to training and eating - i.e 6-7 meals a day, plenty of machines and isolation work? is that still the traditional route for most when it comes to BBing?

Thr best thing you can do Dc is compete, you will take yourself to new levels in your training and personal life. I know you have the discipline losing all that weight now focus that into competing and you will love it. As far as training, compounds all the way,8-12 rep range try more like 8-9 meals on Dj diet. Competing has changed my life I have a new respect for all who compete and the brains of the trainers behind them.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Koe :)

I was looking at trying something completely different with regards to my approach to everything...I will speak to advisers like DJ for nutrition of the traditional route but know that the multiple meal strategy doesn't work well with my moods, energy, time or digestive system - so will have to see.

I know one of the SA IFBBs most ridiclous ideas was to try get government support by introducing steroid testing for the top 6 competitors in each line-up. Flippen joke.

I will start doing some more investigation into what category and competition I would potentially like to enter into.

I love a challenge and the nutrition for me will be the main challenge.

I think one issue I may have is my height, I'm 6'3 (191) which from what I see is tall for a BBer. Am i right in thinking that I would either need to add some considerable size to my 105kg or compete in a Fitness or Classic style category?
