Muscle Evolution 2011

Hi Guys

Anyone went for Muscle Evo over the weekend? what are your thoughts of the show?

Best show I've been to - but then I've only ever been to local IFBB shows so that's not saying much.

The Alves guest pose was a real treat. Met Marius Dohne which was nice but there's something about that guy... Guy Schaffer is fucking huge in real life.

Show wise the results of the U/75kg show was wack. The Dragon should have taken that and the crowd reaction to his 4th place is testament to this. Leslie is a fucking monster. Looks like a walking mushroom with those lats and I realised that bodybuilders in SA don't seem to take leg training seriously.

Lolled at the guy who ran the images and vids on the screens either side of the stage when he desperately tried to find the correct videos and all you could see was was his "Grand Canyon" Windows background. Got some free samples which was nice.

Not a bad way to spend a Sunday evening.

Did Francis Benfatto also guest pose?

Nope

He handed out one of the divisions' prizes thought that was sponsored by Benfatto Nutrition.

I participated at the ME show and is always well run and on time which is rather unusual for IFBB being a competitor we are always the last to know when we will be on stage which can mess up your pre stage warmup,etc.

I didn't agree with a lot of the judging though,it baffles me that the judges can get it so wrong and when you ask for score sheets they are never forthcoming,I ask why?Guys that win the SA's come nowhere at the ME's,WTF?

Last year competitors got t-shirts this year nothing.

It would be nice to have a Arnold Classic type setup in the near future,with MMA events,Strong Man,etc and some awesome stands with a range of clothing,workout gear,supps,workshops hosted by PROs and local experts over 1 or 2 days in conjuction with SAs or ME.

Those are my thoughts good,bad or indifferent.

Well done to Andrew Carruthers on a great mag,cant wait for next months issue.

there was alot of controversy at the ifbb sa's over vusumzi winning his line up let alone the overalls, i personally feel and so do alot of people, that sa's louis bessenger should've won that line up but other "powers" that be didnt agree.. i do believe that this line up was call correctly and the funny thing is at the world champs i can tell u now that andrew hudson is going to be the highest placing sa athlete,2nd year in a row!

bud there were some funny calls here,mario venter competed in the nabba show the night before and placed 4th and then wins the ME,not taking anything away from your win at the sa's and your not so just placing at the ME but apparently the call should've been Steve Mclarren,you,casper then mario,apparently(this is from other competitors and people at the show) Steve mclarren and john lesley were the most conditioned guys on the night, but the judges didnt seem to make that call,but i do feel that you should've done better than 4th.

DJ, do you feel Vusumzi is losing most of his conditioning that he initially had? he has great potential

yes, great potential but when u come in smooth and watery with minimal condition and win the line up is a very controversial thing,apparently the head of the ifbb was running around backstage at weight in saying that this is the overall winner of the show. do u know at the natals he should've done the light heavy class as he came in under 90kgs, yet he competed as a heavy weight in over 90,but no one can tell us why? and then he wins a line up just with muscle size when there were much better proportioned and conditioned guys there and then beats john lesley for overalls hmmmmmm *sniff sniff* something fishy there... he is a good athlete if he dieted and did cardio and someone took him under his wing,potential to be a pro... but when it comes to worlds this year i think he is going to be left in the dark next to the other arab competitors who bring the most insane conditioning!

Yes DJ I agree with you 100% and heard about the controversey at the Natals,I will inbox you the details but again it seems some people have certain powers within the IFBB.I have asked many times for score cards and if judges sytand by their decisions they should be made public as we have a right to know where we placed and why so we can improve for the next show,but always same ols story,there is no transparency and this is when people get miffed.
We can all make mistakes but not at the athletes cost,we are the guys that are sacrificing our lives by dieting,training,practising posing routines,putting stress on family and relationships,etc and the organisations are putting on shows with very scant regard on how to treat the athletes with the respect and compensation they deserve.
When I say compensation I am looking at trophies mainly as money and supplements is another topic completely.The trophies at SAs this year were shocking and were the same used as SAs in Durban 2010 bar a bit of fancy woodwork,a disgrace for all the effort one puts into a sport one loves so much.

I agree, I don't see why we are denied access to the scoresheets. In the US, the scoresheets are made public so I don't see why it's different in SA. Maybe we should boycott this issue
