This is what I found on the web, hope it helps:)

"A study showed over 550% increase in plasma growth hormone levels 90 minutes after Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) administration a significant increase unmatched by any other nutritional means."

Reference:
Effect of acute and repeated administration of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) on growth hormone and prolactin secretion in man. Acta Endocrinol (Copenh). 1980 Feb; 92(2): 149-54
Gamma Aminobutyric Acid is a gamma neurotransmitter that plays a significant role in hypothalamic-pituitary function affecting all hormonal functions of the body including Growth Hormone. Gamma Aminobutyric acid stimulates the production of Growth Hormone (GH). GH has been found to facilitate the metabolism of fats in the body resulting in startling fat loss. GH is widely know for its powerful muscle building effects.
GH tends to decrease with age, making it harder to lose fat and build muscle, this is one reason why Gamma Aminobutyric Acid increases the deepness and quality of sleep, obtaining more rest can lead to greater energy throughout the day.
All of these benefits together translate to an overall increase in wellness, youthfulness and a definite rise in energy.
Directions for use:
Take 3 to 5g (1 to 1½ teaspoons) mixed into 250ml water immediately before sleep on an empty stomach (60min after your last meal)

Would it help with natural GH release even if you're on  a little extra?

Guys, I have been using GABAtropin(Solal Tech) for the last two weeks(1 capsule half hour before sleep) together with Ni-agra(PNS). Before I used GABAtropin I suffered from insomnia for years and used all brands of sleeping and calming pills. Now I don't take anything for insomnia and sleep deeper and better. Don't know if it's my imagination but my strength also increased. :sleeping

If everybody does it, is it still cheating?

North_Boy I have not really paid any attention to GABA but what is its actual properties? What is it good for ? Why would I use it? And what dose?

For what its worth I heard a rumour that GABA is the only supp used throughout the Aus & New Zealand rugby squads. I also know a SA atletics couch which swears by it and all his trainees are on it.

GABA is another supplement company scam.

Orally ingested GABA does not cross the blood brain barrier, to increase brain GABA which would increase GH - Scientific Fact.

You could try Solal's GABAtropin. GABAtropin is an analog of GABA, which does cross the blood brain barrier.

I dont quite agree with you...

Type GABBA in Google and you find the first 10sites on it is educational. Type in GABAtropin and ALL you get is people selling the stuff...

I'm aware that its (once again) a case where there is no definate 100% proof of all the claimed facts.

I for one struggle to sleep and rarely sleep more than 4-6 hours, that includes waking up 2-3 times. I have used countless sleeping aids that either does f-ol or they knock you out and 10am the next morning you still look like a zombie. After starting on GABA I sleep 8hours straight.

Now you only grow and produce hormones that helps you grow when you sleep and your muscles only repair themselves when you sleep so a deep good sleep is important. So even if it does not have all the magic effects that a lot of people claim it still works for me on that level and any other claimed positive effects are also welcome!

That's because GABAtropin is the trade name for Phenibut. In Russia, Phenibut is sold as a neuropsychotropic drug that is capable of passing the blood-brain barrier.

GABAtropin (Phenibut) was introduced as a supplement in the US, by Patrick Arnold - the man who devloped THG (The Clear).

Seriously, if you want to talk science don't quote google use Pubmed.

Anyways, any supplement or drug that does increase GABA causes dependency if overused eg. alcohol and benzos. A friend of mine got off benzos by going onto GABAtropin, but then suffered severe withdrawal symptoms when he tried to stop the GABAtropin.

But does that not mean ordinary GABA is better for that exact reason?

No, exactly the opposite,

The dependency is caused by downregulation of the GABA receptor, due to high levels of GABA in the brain.

If theres no dependency with repeated use of supplemental GABA, it means the GABA is not crossing the blood brain barrier and increasing brain GABA enough to cause downregulation.

There is no science saying that GABA does not cross the blood brain barrier. I think a better question would be how much crosses or how much does not cross over.

One might pass through it more effectively than the other, But I for one would be happier to take the one that partially gets through and I still get the benefits. Rather than take the total cross over GABAtropin (supposedly) and put up with withdrawal symptons.

Alright I don't use GABA, so I don't know much about it. Here are two questions...

1. If once GABA is taken up through the gut and into the blood stream (which it inevitably is), and once it has joined all the other naturally produced GABA in the blood, why is it that only the endogenous GABA would act to raise GH and not the exogenous GABA?

2. Are the effects of GABA on GH mediated by GABA itself or by its convertion to GHB?

Sorry if I offend you
Its just my point of view

Endogenous GABA is found in the brain, and the exogenous GABA is in the body. The blood brain barrier won't allow the endogenous into the brain to raise GH.

GABA, it doesn't convert to GHB.

I understand the rates are far lower but from what I have found the GHB --> SSA --> GABA reaction is in fact reversible and thus in excess GABA could form GHB.

Endogenous GABA is found in the brain, and the exogenous GABA is in the body. The blood brain barrier won't allow the endogenous into the brain to raise GH.

O.k. yes, most of the GABA in the body is originally produced in the brain (but also in other tissues). But I can't find any papers talking about the inability of GABA to enter the brain from blood, or the modification (such as in gabatropin) that negates this.
I'm on a time limit and have my own papers to read, since we are trying to learn about GABA could you please post up these relevant studies to look at. (Don't worry if they require a subscription, just post the titles and author).
Thanks.

I used to use GABA, and I cannot tell you which type it was or from which supplier/manufacturer. But it worked like a charm. Slept like a rock every night. Is the one from Solal in tablet form the real deal, or where would I source the powder from? Hope that question is allowed....
