You what I did.

I took the ZMA container from the supplement section.

Walked round to the Vitamins , and other tablets section. And tried to make up the same combination .

ZMA is not just Zinc and Magnesium. There is Bit B6 as well.

MY combo I bought was.

Vitaforce High potency Zinc complex ( Zinc + A + B6) + Vital Magnesium complex

My only question is :

My combo is Zinc Gluconate
Magnesium citrate and malate (I think)

But all the other ZMA's contact "Zinc monomethionine aspartate and Magnesium Aspartate"

Is there such a big difference in the aspartate than Gluconate and aothers?

yup it is, not 100% sure on the dose but would be around 30mg zink... use zink / magnesium and get a good B vit.

Isnt 30mg Zinc too little?

I have 210mg Zinc.

Other ZMA's are at a pretty high dosage.

If I remember correctly. ZMA has to be taken at a certain dosage to be affective .

I think you may be right. 30mg is the right amount .

I may be taking to much!

The idea behind ZMA (in the highly scandalous report from which all this started) is that athletes are deficient in zinc and magnesium because of heavy training and a diet rich in calcium (from protein supps and the like) which prevents efficient uptake of the other two metal ions. This deficiency supposedly resulted in lowered testosterone levels.

So the idea is that by supplementing with these they were able to reverse their deficiency and raise their testosterone. Any ol' zinc and magnesium sup will do fine for this. But the idea is pretty pointless if you already have optimal testosterone production. I managed to find a kilo zinc gluconate and 5kg of some magnesium complex for around R100 altogether and I'll throw them into some water and drink accordingly during PCT and just after until testosterone has normalised, just to be sure... Beyond that ZMA is pickle sprinkles and fairie dust because my test remains in the normal range off cycle.

@ Inja

Sorry for asking this then but when not on gear the ZMA at bedtime does wonders for me. I sleep better and my muscles is not as sore the next day so I can train harder. What is the reason for this - just the deficit in my diet of Zinc and Magnesium?

Magnesium deficiency is commonly linked to insomnia and correcting this will result in better sleep like you experience. Since you are deficient in Mg and then possibly Zn as well you could have impaired testosterone production which again supplementation aided, and thus you recover faster. So yep, the only reason the ZMA is helping is your underlying mineral deficiency.
Someone who is not deficient in these minerals or already has optimal testosterone levels will not benefit from the testosterone increasing claims of ZMA.
