Hi guys been doing some cardio for the last few weeks now wanting to get rid of the winter love handles for summer LOL. I have always understood that high intensity cardio is best for fat burning. What i normally do is run on the treadmill flat out until i cant go anymore then drop the speed to a slow jog to catch my breath back i run like this for a few mins until i feel i am ready for the next spurt of flat out running. I repeat this cycle for about 15 to 20 mins and do this 3 times a week after my weights which is the max ot way of training. I now have noticed alot of guys doing cardio by just brisk walking on a incline on the treadmill and they are loosing fat and starting to look good some of these guys are built really well and you can see they been training for some time. Is this a new way of doing cardio is it more effective than hit cardio? I remember watching a film on jay cutler and remember him doing cardio this same way of brisk walking on a treadmill on a incline.

I also do alot of cardio and from my understanding the basic principals is the following. You dont have to kill the intensity cause as soon as you go unaerobic your body start to use glucose for fuel. The optimun fatburning zone is between 60-75% of your max haert rate. General formula is 220-age=max hr. This is very generalized though.

Keep your hr in that zone for about 40min and thats fine. As soon as this gets boaring you can do some intervals in between where you spike your hr to 85-90% of max for 30-60s and drop it down again for 2-3min then repeat couple of times. Fat burning is best done in the morning in a fasted state (no eating before)

too much HIIT training can cause high cortisol levels and over training, rather treat HIIT cardio like a weight session with food before and after the session. i would suggest like abc01 said, rather keep the intensity moderate for best results

Brisk walking for 10min after training is good to get blood flowing even and would be good as a "warm down".

Brisk walking for 20min for cardio is a waste of time in my opinion. Might as well have a jerk before you go to gym then

I do a fast walk (Just before you start jogging like 6km/h) and max incline for 20 min. Feels quite intense. Although its extremely boring, I would love to try something else to burn fat.

@abc so you would rather jerk off did not know you were such a wanker how long would you jerk off for to get a good cardio workout ? 2 mins cant imagine you lasting longer than that! LOL just kidding the reason i asked about brisk walking on a incline was i have seen other guys doing it and they seem to be in pretty good shape.

Dont get me wrong! I think brisk walking like stripflow's doing is great while you on cycle and dont want to overdo the cardio side (bulking in other words). I was thinking in your case where you want to shed some excess "joy" of a nice time off. You could even put in a few laps (30min) in the pool once per week. Swimming combined with good other cardio like running is excellent for shedding those pounds. I assume here that your diet is already in check. I would say 5 weeks with cardio 4x per week and your back in form.

Typing this and doing this is off course 2 diff things

It all depends on the calories that you are burning and the percentage of those calories that are made up of fat. At very high intensity in a 20 minute workout on a treadmill you can burn about 300 calories of which lets say, 40% is fat which equates to 120 calories of fat.
On a low intensity over 20 minutes you might end up with 100 calories to burn the same amount of calories but approximately 65 would be fat which equates to only 65 calories of fat…..

@dj i am very impressed at the amount of weight you lost in the photos you posted. So i take my hat of to you. Must of being hard work well done. So you recon brisk walking on a incline for 20 mins would work at burning fat as i said i have also seen videos of jay cutler getting ready for compo doing cardio like this. I normally set my speed to 6 to 6.5 km and incline to 6 as well on the treadmill at virgin active do this for 20 mins oh yeah my calfs are dead after this they burn like a bitch
