well if u are only dieting now for the kzn novice u have left it a bit late being 4 weeks away...

one thing i would do is not drop your calories too much in the search of getting ripped quick.a 500cal a day drop is more than perfect to drop fat and retain muscle mass...

gluatmine and BCAA's are essential aswell...

too much cardio and a big calorie deficit = muscle loss...rather diet for 16weeks with less of a calorie deficit so u dont loose to much muscle

Try and utilise as much supplementation as possible so you can hold onto that tissue,

Make sure you are banging atleast 3-4 grams of protein so you keep your nitrogen retention high at all times so you do not go into an anti catabolic state.

Do not overtrain!Make sure you still move weights that are as heavy as possible so the tissue is retained, dont be fooled into thinking high reps and lighter weight is gonna bring out those cuts in fact the OPosite will occur.

Just a few tips of many !

hope helps regards

Djeasye if you place top 3 at a novice show you cannot enter as a novice again so i'm getting all the info i need before i start dieting for East Coast Classic which is on the 25th July its also a novice show but with a few open lineups, more of a prelim for Natals in Aug.

I usually take abt 8 weeks to diet so wouldnt 16 weeks be a little excessive?

Shot for the input guys!

give me an exact break down of your daily diet and weights of all the food that u use...will help u out,but i'd start buy dropping carbs by 100g for 2 days,150for 1 day and then back to your current level.for 1 day an then repeat the process.. just by cutting your carbs by 100g daily intake thats 400cals already, your low day would be 600calories and then back to maintaince...you have good fats on your side so u all good for now...remember the longer u take to diet down the less muscle u loose...20mins cardio for the first couple weeks done post work out should be a good starting point,if u are not dropping after a couple of weeks then u add in another 20min session sometime during the day... this way u are burning up your calories not restricting them through dieting...

farook,
Which part of "natural" did you miss in classic1's post?

If everybody does it, is it still cheating?

Glutamine is worthless - it has no proven anti-catabolic effects.

BigDave I'm going to have to disagree with you. If you read up on it you will see that its not worthless. If you dont believe that its fine but between what I've read and what some of the respected members on this forum have said I definately do not think its worthless, I in fact think it is quite vital.

Just my point of view

Bigdave or should i say 'Dofdave' if you really believe your statement of saying that glutamine has no anti-catabolic properties then just carry on mate.

Glutamine is one of the most abundant amino acids in the human body so when you consume it your body utilises those glutamine aminos you have ingested first instead of attacking those hard earned muscles.

Buddy if that is not anti catabolic then i suppose, gh , juice etc is a figment of all our imagination.

Big D DO SOME RESEARCH !

MYO!

Listen guys - i take glutamine and quite a bit of it. All my gains so far have been where i had it in my supp list so i'm not going to change; BUT.. I've come across numerous articles that state the same as BigDave suggests. Articles from reputable sites like bodybuilding.com etc. which state that you should get enough glutamine in an ordinary bulking-type diet.
So the question is really whether we get enough through proper diet or not. Should we supplement or not.
There are 2 schools on this, as with alot of other supps.

MYO, As i've stated; i use plenty Glutamine. I believe it helps.
All i'm saying is that i have come across quite a number of articles questioning additional(L) Glutamine while on a normal, protein rich, diet. Reason being its abundant and you should get plenty from your food.
Quantity also differ. Anything from 5 - 30 grams depending on the article you read.
