Chicken Breast Prices per Kg in Jhb was created by acidkidsa

Hi all,

Over past month I have been buy from different places
to compare prices.

The list is set from cheapest to the most expensive:

Skinned filleted chicken breast:

Pick 'n Pay (may differ?): R44.00 per /kg
Fruit and Veg : R48/R49 per kg
Spar : +-R53 per kg
Some small butcheries : R53 per kg
Woolworth : Don’t ask

I normal go through +3 kg chicken in 5 days

Hope this helps someone.

Makro Woodmead is also pretty cheap.
The PnP Hyper in Woodmead has some nice specials at the moment on chicken...

How much per Kg?

Last time I checked my makro they didn’t have . Only mixed portions

If you have Discovery Vitality and registered for the healthy eating option you get extra % off the P&Pay price. Bargain - P&P Chicken is the best.

Ish Dicovery is nice for the dicount and other extra's. But thats about it.

Maybe my girl can buy for me .She is on Dicovery

i agree, Macro woodmead does have some good prices and the quality is pretty good too, comes in 2kg preformed packs

I dont buy from Makro, i was just showing the prices.
I also buy from PnP
Have a look at www.pnponline.co.za/ProductList.aspx?CategoryName=Groceries
Click butchery on the first row, then poultry, then Chicken Breats and the chicken prices will come up.

Oh I see.

The ones from Makro have bones in them. So when paying per weight , you pay for the bones which take up alot of mass.

PnP is the best prices:

Pnp butchery Country Reared Boneless Chicken Breast 1 PK

Butchery > Poultry > Chicken Breasts

R 43.95 per kg

So, you basically spending R550 (R132 a week X 4 weeks in a month) a month on chicken, then add in brocoli, and oats, etc etc, its CRAZY how quickly it adds up!!!!

Umm yeah around there. I spend around R300 R400 on food a week.

48 eggs brocollie , oats...

Its worth it to me.. You spend more money when eating crap..

Start adding up 2L coke , chips , chocolate....ends up alot more

look at it this way. 1 kfc burger and chips = R40 +/- for that R40 i can get 1kg of chicken and 1kg of oats which will last me 5 meals. where as that one kfc burger didnt even last a meal as i still have the chicken and carbs from other places cos they arent fulling!

Yeah, i totally agree.
I Spend about R300 a week on food for myself, but i find i am still not eating enough!
Maybe its just not enough of the right stuff.

But again, this thread proves what an investment it is to be in this "sport"!

If I feel I have not eaten enough I have a lil more chicken or protein before bed or
3am when I get a hunger wake up call

That is a super cheap price for chicken breasts. I pay double that for it here in Pta. See if my friends in KZN gan get me some.

There is a butchery in Mayfair (will find out the name again) thats also in the 20 odd region, quality not bad just a mission to drive into town every month
