Yes its fine, when else are you supposed to eat if you are eating every three hours as a body builder

I eat oats and have a shake just before I train at 04:30 in the morning. And I have plenty energy when training.

I eat my chicken/rice /broc at 3 and I train at 4:15 - 4:30 , plus have a shake 15 min before.

Like Beesting said , when you ar you suppose to eat.

Just dont eat like 15 min before the time. Space it out nicely

For muscle mass this is not a maybe bro, this is a must. Having a meal pre-workout (~1hour before) has been proven to increase strength and muscle mass!

Ok awesome, but are we talking like a full on meal or something to keep the appetite in check?

Just enough to fuel your workout I guess. My pre workout shake is about 30g Carbs and 30g Protein, but if you're bigger then you'll probably need a bit more.

If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.

In that case you need plenty carbs as you'll need to fuel your workouts and rugby training sessions or else you'll go catabolic in no time!

I have a full meal 1-2hours before, and then throw in some silly pre-workout homemade supps a half hour before training. I find that if I don't have a full meal consisting of complex carb and protein my workout ust isn't as intense and I don't feel as awesome and pumped after.
Got to be careful not to have the meal to close to training though or the stomach might complain.

I eat a 3/4 meal, "full meal" but just slighly smaller portion at 3pm.. then at 4pm I suck a protein shake (50 grams) then I head to gym. I start training around 4:20pm, so I have had around an hour and a half to digest my food... if I don't have that meal, then I can only do around 3 sets and I start feeling flat...

I am a bit confused with what you guys think is a full meal? Whether you a body builder or not?

Meal is a meal. Everything else could be considered a snack. ??

But if its larger than your fist . Then I reckon 1 hour gap between training.

If I dont eat proper before training . I feel alot weaker and cant train proper.

I'd have something like steak + mash + veggies (smaller portion 3/4 what I would normally have as a meal) that is what I mean by a full meal.

If I have something like a Mc Donalds I feel terrible in the gym, heart burn comes and I have 0 energy...

I need a good source of fuel.... and mash really does it for me... mash or brown Bismati rice...

And I make sure I have a slower release of protein (the steak) and then the whey protein just before I train so I have that extra edge + strength...

But as Inja said, you need to make sure you eat what agrees with you, don't pig out so you bloated and struggle to train or do abbs or something... its very uncomfortable...

Hence you could have a protein shake + waxy maize.... but I don't feel full so in the gym my stomach starts to burn, etc....

Ok kewl, so a meal does help but not too close to gym time which i found out today.... ate breakfast (scrambled eggs) with a protein shake and was in the gym within 40 minutes and i felt like vomiting after each exercise. My gag reflexes were really giving up...

training with out eating is like trying to drive your car from JHB to ct on R50 petrol, its not gonna work. u need to feed the body in order for you to train hard and push the iron to your maximum

Ok I just had my steak for breakfast a little to underdone for me... this thing was running all over my plate.. I'm not the type of guy that enjoys eating something that a good vet just might be able to save :P
