Who would thought a 132kw was possible from a 1400 motor. Just on the sunroof. Two guys from the vw forums were just driving along and their sunroofs just exploded. Just like that. No stone hitting it, nothing. That's supposed to be shatterprufe tempered glass too but they had bits and pieces all over them. So sunroof on a polo seems like a factory issue. Overall though u will really enjoy the car if dsg is ur thing. Me, I'm old school and like manual. That was one of the reasons I sold her. Oh and no launch control on this box but some of the tuners are developing software for it

What fuel consumption were you getting with the Polo GTi?

And what was your driving style when you got that consumption? I drove a normal 1.6 Polo, and got precisely what VW claimed (around 6.5 l / 100km).

Dj hit the nail on the Head, Audi is pure class, you will be surprised at what you can afford, do not live beyond your means, expand your means.
Ice-Rip knows his stuff, I never keep a car more than 3 years, the last 3 cars I bought with a residual except the BMW and strange thing is I only lost money on the BMW. Id go A3 1.8t, or as Ice-Rip said go for the GTI I miss my GTI, great vehicle. Polo GTI is overpriced and is small, stability not so great at higher prices, FYI if you have the power you are going to use it, my A5 supposed to give me 6.3l/100km Im getting around 10.3 as if the power is there you gonna use it trust me.

I.m.o the normal GTI is a much nicer driving experience and much better for those that push the car to its limit. If you go for the polo GTI then you will by no means be disappointed. Just always keep a sharp eye on those finance contracts- there are some shrewed rats out there! Definately get a software remap for those turbos you will not believe the difference!

Sweet thanks Pyro. Almost went BMW but then common sense prevailed and won the day lol. With regards to software, the polo won't make as much as 30kw as its already tuned to the max but guys are getting around 15kw or so. I am running a unitronic stage 1+ map on my car. Went unitronic over Revo based on price and haven't looked back. Also very reputable tuner. My car standard makes 173kw at the fly wheel and 300nm of torque. That's roughly 155kw and 280 nm at the wheels (wheel power is what counts not flywheel as the manufacturer advertises). After map around 190kw and 385nm at the wheels. Feels awesome

22.5% Increase in power and almost 30% increase in torque is absolutely rediculous!! Amazing what a couple of 1000 can do to a car hey! A mate of mine also has a 6th-gen Golf GTI. He did a stage 1 conversion on it and he says it spits out 225KW on the dyno. 0-100 Under 5 secs!

No way that's a stage 1 only. The gti uses a KO3 turbo vs my car and the s3,golf r etc KO4 turbo. No way will a ko3 make that power with stage 1. Sorry bro. U friend not telling u the full truth about what else under the hood. KOE I'm sure u loving the A5 bro. Audi is in a class and price range of its own. Happy miles

Pretty similar to a 6 Gti. Around 7l highway and 10l in traffic. The supercharger boosts till 3000rpm and then the turbo takes over to peak rev. So the car is always in boost making it thirsty. Don't let the 1400 motor make u think it won't be. The figures advertised are at the coast and under ideal conditions. Its different here in jozi. Now if only we could get 98 octane at the pumps. That would make things very interesting performance wise

Thanks for all the advice - went 180 degrees and got a VW Tiguan. When I saw the Polo GTi's miniscule boot I realised I need space. The Tiguan is great on fuel consumption too. Not very sexy or exciting, but it's got a lot of cool features.

Went to see the Audi A3, it's just too expensive for me for what you get. The A3 I saw was going for R290,000 and didn't have leather seats or mp3 functionality. No spectacular features except for ESP, cruise control and climatronic control - which I can get for much less on the VW's.

I'm sure Audi is in a class of its own, but it's a bit pricey when I can get a whole lot more features on the VW for less.

Anyways, thanks for the comments. Now I just need to get back into the full swing of things, only been training upper body, no cardio. Still limping a bit from the accident.

Going for the 2.0 TDi Bluemotion. The guy is giving me just under R16k discount (ex VAT). I think that's pretty good?

He's the only guy who was able to source one for me with all the specs I wanted (sunroof, leather, bi-xenon lights, foglights, towbar, RCD-510 6 disc CD changer with touch screen). The other dealers said there is a 4-5 month waiting list on the car.

Haha stared at that bumper sticker one too many times. and the best Landrover could come up with is "not leaking oil, just marking my territory" :pinch: they're so much better though. Once you get one you become part of that Landie family where you're all compelled to be friendly and wave to fellow landie drivers because no one else loves you... and you're stuck for life :)
