Discussions to end strike at the South African Post Office underway

"The salary differentials cut across race and gender and they result mainly from normal operational activities like transfers, training and development and long term service” Said John Wentzel, the South African Post Office's Chief Operating Officer. “The statement by the Communication Workers Union is contrary to our remuneration policy and is incorrect. The South African Post Office does not pay salaries according to race or gender."

About 54% of the South African Post Office bargaining unit employees headed the call to strike this morning, with over 90% of mail workers not reporting for work. Services that have been affected most are mail collection and delivery, door to door and counter to counter parcel delivery. Contingency plans have been activated and as a result some services remain available, albeit at a slower pace. Parcel delivery through the Courier and Freight Group continues with minimal disruptions, while Postbank operations are unaffected. One hundred and fifty (150) out the two thousand four hundred (2 400) post office branches did not open this morning, although some opened later in the day.

"We want to assure our customers that we are doing everything possible to get to a speedy resolution of this issue and request understanding as we go through the process" added, Wentzel "Customers should call our customer service number 0860 111 502 for any information during this period"

what a load of shit.... getting so sick of these strikes......... people that strike don't give a fuck about the country... when I watch it my blood boils and I feel like banging heads together its been 1 non stop strike for the last year....

and then again another strike with the taxi once again they dont give a shit about the country and it going forward and public transport... they greedy mother fuckers that try to make people fear them by acting like crazed barberians.............

They have been slow striking since Tuesday around here. Stuff still goes through but it takes day or two longer.

Its ridicilous!! You pay to have the service and the F#cken idiots are insisting on a 15% increase.

what does that mean, everything has to go up 15%, thats what these tots dont understand.... you have a budget for XYZ, and in that budget you have set aside for your salaries, now you can't suck money out of thin air!!!! so the company has to put their price up, what causes XYZ to put their price up, etc......

The reason they strike is cause every fuckin time they do this they know the will get compensated!! it's like giving a kid candy even though he did not deserve it. My resolution is, if they want more pay, they must show an increase in productivity! But that will never happen...

I have been doing work for Eskom recenty, the laziest fucking okes that work there... arrange a meeting, firstly you sit for freaking ages, (1 hour) and then somebody comes slowly walking out.... that stroppy freakin look on their faces makes me want to ..................

everyone these days loves to get by, by doing as little work as possible, then thinking its their right to have more....... its shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is schocking!! Those lazy bastards just sit around doing fuck all (just annoying us) and expect everything needs too fall in their lap!

hey isn't this strike going to affect certain vital deliveries? what the fuck is wrong with these people? where do they think the money to pay them is going to come from? fuck them. ii should be allowed to beat up strikers.

What alot of these people dont realize is , the more they strike and get increases , the more people will be left without jobs.
The companies will cut jobs to cover the cost.

Things at our PO seems fine. I ordered "Bigger,Stronger,Faster" from US two weeks ago. It was sent from Cape Town on Thursday and I collected it at Karenpark PO (Pta) on Saturday morning.

mine is fine this morning too

According to the Post Office it should be resolved end of week latest and they are hoping for Weds

Post Office and CWU reach agreement
Pretoria – The South African Post Office and the Communication Workers Union have reached an agreement to end the eight-day nationwide strike.

Striking employees are expected to return to work tomorrow. Details of the agreement will be announced later. The South African Post Office appreciates the difficult time that the general public and our customers went through during this time and wishes to thank everyone for their continued patience and understanding.

We aim to have all delivery backlogs cleared within a week

yup, they pushing the intensity of it this time and most of JHB PO's will be closed..... have you guys heard how many times we use the word urgent court indedict, we hear it everyday, today for the post office, few days ago for the army striking... its like wtf? you hear it maybe once a year / once every 2 years in another country....

its the problem that always occurs when you give an undisciplined populus the freedom to protest, strike etc....they rip the ring out of it. Im all for the right to protest and strike but keeping it disciplined is the key. It never happens in that way here. When there is a peaceful protes or march its actually reported like that because its so unique it make headlines....go figure:S

i need the strike to be over! waiting on my gear and now im running short gonna have to cut my test prop short for a couple days

Striking = Behaving like Animals, and they should be shot or locked up in a camp and get treated like animals.
