That being said, I don't want to spend more then R10k on the ring itself. Before you call me cheap, here is the plan. We are both very much into experiences as opposed to 'things', so I want to go all out on the proposal instead. I'm chartering a sunset cruise on a luxury boat, with a three course meal, and before hand I'm going to drop her off for a day at the a 5 star spa.

Well you'll have to get something like that handmade, if you find it somwhere and it's cast it won't last as they use nickel instead of palladium to make the gold white so is brittle and on something like that the finer detail will crack.
To be honest Bro the ring will cost you at least R4500 so that doesn't leave you much for a stone while princess cuts(square diamonds) are one of the cheaper cuts for that design you'd need at least a .40 ct stone so you'd need to get it from someone who's not going to charge you vat and sell you a stone below rap(the trade price) if you do you'll just make it.
I'd go for a color j/k so your still in the white range and. Clarity si1/si2 so it's slightly included but no inclusions will be visible to the naked eye. Cut is the most important if the cut isn't great as soon as she gets hand cream behinds the stone it'll loose all it's life and look dead whereas a well cut stone all the light goes in the top and out the top so cream and dirt behinds the stone won't affect its life.
Your going to have to find a good manufacturing Jeweller and you'll get something within your budget but there few and far between unfortunately most Jewellers in SA suck ass.
you'll have no chance at a retail shop they send all there makeups out and then double up the price.

Good luck mate. Rings are expensive. I just got engaged 2 weeks ago and the only way I could afford it is because I inherited a .56 ct diamond that I got set in white cold.

Your not kidding there you wouldn't believe the amount of women that I get come to me with a ring I made for there husband less than a year ago trying to sell me back the diamond... Like fuck if your going to leave him give him the bloody ring back.

Not to be seen in a negative light but more a modern one;

if I could go back in time I would never have got married, yes my wife and I are still together but it cost us a fortune and it means nothing. The fact that she wears you ring or vice versa does not mean she wont take a ride somewhere else OR that you wont stick it in some hottie after a beer or two. It means jack. If I could do it again, it would be partners with kids. Simple, no politics or that dumb traditional stuff etc.
