Thanks Etwa, ya I have looked at a few double cabs, Navara is quite nice, problem is practicality, kids can't sit in the back of bakkies anymore its illegal, seats in an SUV fold down or can be removed, tow bar on Fortuner is a given and allows for even more packing space. By far the best value for money SUV out.
Regarding safety you are right, problem is I can't go for something I like less just because of fear of thieves, I can't let the crime dictate my decisions.
Insurance is about R300 more than my BMW so BMW is also high risk due to volume of them around as is POLO or citi Golf.

ja i hear you, i was not saying the kids should sit in the back of the bakkie, was meaning there is so much more space for all the other stuff to go there. and the kids (in a double cab) can sit on the back seats. perhaps this is still too small for you...I know you mentioned you have three little ones now.

I do love the fortuner also, for me best buy by far, i feel uncomfortable on the risk though. Had an opportunity a while back to buy a brand new fortuner for 290k (i know a couple of ppl) and pitty i didnt take it up to now.

ix35 for me is too small and too much plastic inside. Toureq is my another choice but VERY pricey

Lol,I hear you on the Toureg it is beautiful, true German Engineering.
Well they say the 4*2 is going to set me back R400K which with what it comes with is great value for money, also will for now not be as common as all the other Fortuners riding around Mpumalanga. :)
Admin you saved me from getting the old model, as the sales person said nothing about now that I come to think of it. Thanks

Fokket man, you are lucky and congrats. It's an awesome car and I'm seriously considering getting the new model.

Which model did you get?
4.0L or 3.0L or 2.5L?
4x4 or 4x2?
Auto or manual?

Thanks,3.0 D4D Manual 4*2, I would never use 4*4, , was a long wait but I decided its best value for money SUV on the market. Considered Captiva they fall apart cheap interior, KIA Sportage great but no backup service in this country that really know the vehicle. IX 35, great but to small for my family.
Truly this is a great SUV almost bought the old one till you stopped me :) dodged a bullet there. Had to wait but I think it will be worth it.

Ahh nice, I have the 2010 - 3.0 Auto 4x2 now, but want to "upgrade" to the new - 3.0 Auto 4x4.

You made the right choice and I'm so happy with mine I will buy another one anytime. I considered the 3.0 Prado VX, but it's too damn heavy with all the fancy buttons you hardly ever use... lol

The only thing I wanted them to change in the new auto was the 4 speed gear box to the 5 speed they use in the prado. If they do that it will help with fuel consumption as shifting will be at lower revs. On the other hand the prado is almost 400kg heavier so it needs the 5 speed where the fortuner is just fine with a 4 speed. The overdrive gear is the same, so it doesn't affect top speed anyway. I get 11km/l and think that is very good, but I drive very responsibly and most I've spoken to get about 9.5km/l

I also like the new radio with reverse camera. I had to install a reverse camera myself... not that you need it, but it's very handy if you want to back out of small parking spaces.

The Prado is awesome if you have the cash id go Land Cruiser. I need a reverse camera, being on dieted hasn't exactly heighhtened my senses :)

No offence to the guys driving a fortuner (im sure they are good value for money). Its just that they have this stigma of: "hey im driving a fortuner but i would rather have a prado"

Personally i would rather go for a hyundai ix35. Im sure you would get allot more value for money.

I have 2010 Isuzu Dtec 3L 4x4..

Good cars and they dont break.. Would never think of getting another cabbie

Never fraternize with them as equals, never accept them as your social equals or they will devour you, they will destroy you.

I don't think so, the Fortuner and Prado cater for two completely different markets. The two are not comparable and like Koe said the Pardo is in another league. Hell you can buy two of the new smaller 2.5L Fortuners for the price of one 3.0L VX Pardo and still have enough left to get your girl a boob job... lol

I've driven or inspected most of the Fortuner competitors and they all had something putting me off immediately. For most it were the engine, others it were ground clearance and others just didn't look like they will survive driving through a pothole.

One should also remember that when you buy a Toyota, you can drive all over Africa and still find spare parts should you need any. I guess this is partly due to most stolen Toyota's ending up in north Africa anyway... lol

I wonder if they upgraded the alarm system on the new Fortuner... I hope so, because that was another weakness Toyota should have sorted out long ago.

I believe Toyota sold over 1800 of the older model last month when they ran the clearance special. That shows you just how popular car it is and that you will never struggle selling it again.

Oi bud, the Land Cruiser is a big vehicle and you spend most of your time driving up and down looking for 4 parting spaces you can fit into. My dad drives a Patrol and the power and off road capabilities are amazing, but good luck navigating your way out of confined spaces. Eish, the fortuner is a breeze to drive and park. Turning circle is small enough to go any where large saloons can go without thinking twice about driving over pedestrians walking next to the road.

For a Land Cruiser and Patrol you always need a spotter that stand at the back checking you don't reverse over someones Renault or Spark. Fok, even with the mirrors folded up my dad's Patrol can barely fit into the garage... I think there are 10cm on each side to spare and then once you are inside you can only open the driver door halfway or it hits the wall... Nee dankie, ek laaik nie sukkel nie. Oh, and don't forget the 4km/L consumption.

I picked up my for tuner today. I am speechless, the quiet soft ride, the easy to maneuver steering wheel, touch screen media,Bluetooth tel interface, rear view camera and xenon headlights are just secondary to it's sharp new look. Best Suv in it's range by far. admin worth the trade in but watch outbthey are starting to get a waiting list.

Fantastic bud and congrats once again.

I spoke to someone today that got his a couple of days ago and most of the older accessories do not fit unfortunately. That means I'm going to loose over R25k worth of extra's. What I'm going to do is chat with my dealer and see what their best deal is and then I'll decide.
