Gyms Re-opening was created by RedHulk
Any of you guys get notified that they are planning to reopen the gyms soon? Just got one today and a survey to complete. I guess to access who will be interested in going back to get some sort of number. Even though we've had a major spike in infections i guess these businesses have to open soon. How do you guys feel about it? Look I'll love to go back and get stuck in, but i have a family to keep in mind. Last thing I would want to happen is getting infected at the gym after being virus free till now. I just wonder how they are planning to control heaps of people flogging the gyms once they reopen. I presume protocol would be not to have crowded gyms.

Look having 3 friends in self quarantine showing 0 symptoms I can safely say IDC what the government has to say about regulations. It's vastly overblown and every second person has had it before or has anti bodies - which u can test for now.

I think stuff should go on like in Denmark - practice social distancing and hygiene in the gym. Plain and simple. And I'm not gonna train with a mask that's for sure, I'd rather shit my pants before I do that. Imagine being in a set of heavy squats with a mask on struggling to breathe and then pass out because of a lack of oxygen.

So I'm not sure anymore.

Surveys and petitions can't do shit to change our governments opinion.

And the WHO has officially confessed 2 stuff...

1. The virus is airborn.
2. The virus can be transmitted by asymptomatic individuals.

So all this precautions are actually protecting u against the virus from basically nothing. The bloody air we breathe is most probably infected...

So gyms can just as well open... No point in keeping em closed

see the thing is with opening up commercial gyms is the myriad of other sicknesses that come from being in a place like that.

How many times has Joe Average been "I am sick BOET!" but still comes to train? because gainz are life. then Joe average is also a breeder so he has 2 rug rats that are infested with germs from preschool and he catches those germs and spreads them around the whole gym because they believe that the place should be sub-zero temperatures all year round with aircon blasting and circulating air.

so now People can get sick with all those normal infections on a daily basis even without COVID, now combining COVID on top of that is a recipe for disaster. We have all seen that most people die from COVID due to having other underlying causes, and COVID just accelerates them.

since I moved away from commercial gyms halfway through 2018 I have been sick once and that was over new years, and I don't think it was from the gym at all.

Also how many people have got underlying health concerns they don't know about and go to gyms where bodily fluids are all over the place and potential to catching this virus? also, we are seeing second waves of infections world wide , so it doesn't seem to be getting better to be honest. Can you catch this more than once? will it mutate even further? who knows, but i wouldn't suggest risking it because it isn't only you that needs to be worried, its the people you are in contact with. Sickly parents or elderly grand parents? they are more at risk.

I'm with you Empire. I think that scenario is spot on. The commercial gyms like PF and Virgin are going to have their hands full. Look i feel for them, especially the smaller owned gyms, these guys need to provide and put food on the table too. I guess the best we can do is to equip ourselves better at home, get our mindset right and stay the hell away from these places for now. One thing's for sure things have changed for good no matter how you look at it.

Look - I have to agree but be smart. DONT BE AN IDIOT- if u know u MIGHT have an underlying heart disease then self isolate, same goes for if u have kids, sickly grandparents or parents etc etc. be smart about it..

It depends.
I also received a notification that gyms are opening soon.

Idk, it's a complex situation. On one hand, lockdown doesn't seem to have worked, yet still borked the economy and infringed on our rights. After 3 months of restricted lockdown with poor results, I felt oppressed by our government, rather than helped by it.

Those who go to gym now will be the young and determined. I highly doubt we will be seeing ou toppies and tannies (60+) at gym now. Which really sucks, as they probably need cardiovascular health the most.

Those who are dedicated will gym, mask or no. Covid or no. If the rewards outweigh the fears for you. Or you have serious goals, nothing will really stop you.

If you do go, all you can really do is, do your best to abide by the rules of the gym. They're definitely going to be taking covid really seriously, because their industry was shut down for so long. I doubt small gym companies will even have survived this lockdown.

I work for the department of health and very close to the decision making with regard to this issue. We can be how cautious it will never be 100% without risk. Personally I don't think I'll go back to the gym as soon as they open. Might wait a while for the infection rate to peak and then take the downward trend. I suppose its about personal choice and to apply the necessary precaution where applicable. That being said I did set up a full home gym that allows me a complete work out at home. With the exception of a few machines the home gym is sufficient for me to even go on a cycle during lockdown and make some serious gains.

Please be careful if going back to the gyms, you don't want to see what I see or hear on a daily basis. Not everyone will respond the same. I ve seen healthy people die within days and others not show any symptoms at all.

Be safe

They have been losing so much money, like 350 million a month.

You going to have to book your spot when they open, its going to be rough.

I’ve said it before and I’m going to say it again; the effects of the lockdown will kill far more people than COVID ever will.

Schools, Gyms, Churches, Restaurants should never have been closed in the first place. Go back to your gym and support them, if they close down they will be gone forever.

one thing I can't understand is closing schools and expecting the economy not to flake. how is a single mom of 2 going to look after and home school 2 kids as well as do her job to make a living? it is impossible. Blows my mind.

a friend of mine has a daughter, between her, her mother, her brother, and her father they all have to take a day off of work (some 2) to look after a 4-year-old so that they can keep everything running. it is madness.

Let the virus flourish. We are waiting for D-Day... thats all man. Ive heard that one of my lecturers said the stats that they are working on now shows that about 6 million people will eventually die in ZA from covid in the next 10 years. If the rate continues like this.

A friend of mine is recovering from it now, and she had it very bad.

She couldn't breathe, couldn't walk, was constantly dizzy, ear pain, blurry vision, couldn't eat. Cold sweats. Says blankets did not help to warm her. Nausea.

It varies from person to person.

18k will die from Covid in SA, then it will become just another seasonal flu-like illness with a few deaths yearly. This is by no means an apocalyptic event, Communism is the real enemy that should be eradicated no matter the cost.

We should not forget that through evolution nature has cuased life to evolve very adaptable immune systems, there has been many viruses over the millennia and there will be many more.

Good literature piece basically explaining that gyms pose very little risk for catching covid compared to workplace.

Spread rate is not increased. Does not mean the spread rate is low. This virus spreads rapidly and like any pandemic exponentially. I think it is a fucking shame gyms will have to endure this without any money coming in, but looking at the other arbitrary and plain stupid decisions made in this country, I don't think anyone expected gyms to open up before level 2.

I would not blame all gyms if they opened and let people take their own risks.

If you look hard enough, you'll most likely find privately owned gyms that are open right now because they are paying cops off to ignore their location. I've been training at one for more than a week and I must say it has been a great feeling being back in the gym. Wearing a mask while training is not difficult (although I thought it would be.).

I know of at least three gyms open around me. I wont give sources but just look hard for one if you're truly desperate.

The only training place open I could find was a Boxing/MMA gym near my work. But they dont have much equipment. Walked in there the one afternoon just to check...

We are going to be sitting without gyms for months still.

Hang in there

Ironic

Let's keep people healthy ... and take away their access to fitness centres.

one of the guys I know says that someone at the top level of VA has said that they are hoping to open in September. Be it the start or the end, I am unsure, and could stand to be corrected on that info, but even if it is true, its a long wait.

I foresee December time tons of home fitness stuff for sale, will be able to pick up weight plates for a steal once everyone gets bored at home.
