I don't really use pre-workouts anymore, only every now and then if I feel I need some energy from the stims.

I love that product... rich gaspari said that they do not use high dosages of stimulants nor geranium derivatives because of its vaso constrictive properties

Tin-Man wrote: There are many ingredients that tout a "pump" effect but in actuality none of them actual increase a pump in the human body. Ingredients such as arginine and citrulline are sold as pump products in almost every pre-workout supplement. On paper and in a petri dish there is an increase in nitric oxide which leads to a pump but when actually consumed internally this just does not happen. You may notice an increase in pumps the first or second time you take a pre-workout but the feeling diminishes because the body will do everything it can to maintain homeostasis. One way it does that is by creating an enzyme called arginase which breaks down arginine and inhibits the pump effect. If mechanisms like this were not in place then there is no telling how much the blood vessels would dilate. The "pump" that people feel from pre-workouts comes from the fact that taking these increases energy therefore providing a better workout. The body creates it's own "pump" in response to stress and increases the pool of blood to the area being worked out. There is some research showing caffeine can cause a slight increase in vasodilatation but nothing concrete yet. Hope this helps!

Dude you serious? Banned in RSA? I saw many stim supps on the local Pick&Pay pharmacy supplement section containing it... Perhaps I should go do a buy-out. That's the way I had it as well - just banned for doping in competitive sport. What do you mix for yourself? Bud, give us the recipe please? It's only banned in competitive sport. It's now in most pwo drinks. That's why I stick to my own mix.

Many pre stims increase your blood pressure. What were you using?Kkkyle wrote: I got a little nervous yesterday in the gym, was hitting legs and everytime i would finish a set of squats it felt like my heart was gonna explode, my heart was pumping so hard and fast, im sure it was the pre-workout since i was not even pushing my max weight... I've had spontaneous pneumothorax twice. Been operated on my lungs twice as well. Te pain is mad. Mine was not related to over-exertion though. It just happend.STUARTF wrote:

Just be careful Kyle, a few years ago I had an intense touch rugby match and then went straight to gym to train chest. When I was on benchpress I felt a sudden pain in my chest...thought i was having a heart attack. Everytime I breathed in it felt as though I was being punched in the solar plexis. I went straight to hospital and it turned out being a pneumo-thorax or collapsed lung. Had to get a drainage tube inserted into my lung cavity to allow my lung to inflate again...wasn't lekker at all. The doctor said that it was caused by over-exertion. That is why now I always listen to body and when it feels like I am over-training or training at to high intensity - I rest until it feels like I am recovered and energy levels are replenished. Having rest days is actually so important...at the end of the day - when you rest is when you grow.
